Quick Ship Facts:

Ship Spotlight
Norwegian Viva is the second of NCL's six planned Prima-class ships, and it carries forward a design philosophy that prioritises outdoor public space, a walkable open-air promenade called Ocean Boulevard, and a food-hall approach to dining that sidesteps the traditional buffet entirely. It's a mid-sized ship — roughly 3,200 passengers at full capacity — that feels deliberately less crowded than the mega-ships competing for the same itineraries.
Viva works best for couples and adult groups who want a contemporary ship with genuine design ambition and a strong dining scene, without the sensory overload of the largest vessels at sea. Solo travellers get dedicated Studio cabins and their own lounge. Families can sail here comfortably, but the ship's personality skews grown-up.
Viva is built around open-air living, serious dining, and a handful of genuinely distinctive activities. Here are the features that set this Prima-class ship apart.
A wraparound outdoor walkway on Deck 8 lined with dining, bars, and ocean-facing seating — the design centrepiece that pushes public life into the open air.
A three-level electric go-kart track that wraps around the ship's funnel on the upper decks, offering genuine thrills and a high novelty factor.
A food-hall-style dining venue on Deck 8 that replaces the traditional buffet with multiple open kitchen stations serving varied cuisines at no extra charge.
NCL's ship-within-a-ship suite complex with a private sundeck, pool, restaurant, and dedicated concierge — a premium enclave at the top of the ship.
Purpose-built staterooms for solo travellers at roughly 95 square feet, paired with access to an exclusive Studio Lounge social space.
Infinity-edge pools built into the Ocean Boulevard promenade, giving swimmers an unobstructed sightline to the sea.
Viva delivers a genuinely stylish cruise experience with strong food options and open-air public spaces, all on a ship that carries fewer passengers than the largest competitors. If you want a modern vessel without the sensory overload of a 6,000-guest mega-ship, this is a natural fit.
The Studio staterooms are compact at roughly 95 square feet, but they come with access to a private Studio Lounge and eliminate the single-supplement penalty. Combined with NCL's no-fixed-dining approach, solo guests can set their own pace without feeling sidelined.
Viva's design leans toward adults and couples. While the go-kart track and outdoor spaces are fun for older kids, families looking for extensive children's clubs, water park complexes, or a ship built around the family experience may find more purpose-built options elsewhere.
NCL's Freestyle model means flexibility, but it also means popular restaurants and experiences can require early planning or patience with queues. If you prefer a set dining assignment, a formal-night rhythm, and predictable scheduling, Viva's open format may feel a bit loose.
Outdoor Living
Norwegian Viva pushes a significant share of its public space outdoors. The signature expression is Ocean Boulevard, a wraparound outdoor walkway on Deck 8 that connects dining, bars, and lounge areas in open air rather than routing passengers through interior corridors.
For travelers tired of windowless promenades and enclosed pool decks, Viva's layout feels noticeably different. The open-air emphasis means more natural light and sea views during everyday activities, not just from a cabin balcony.
The outdoor walkway connects the Indulge Food Hall, bars, and lounge seating in a continuous loop. It functions as the ship's main social corridor.
Open-air design is a strength in warm itineraries. On cooler or rainy sailings, expect more crowding in interior spaces.
Dining
The Indulge Food Hall on Deck 8 is the centerpiece of Viva's dining lineup. Located along Ocean Boulevard, it replaces the traditional buffet with a collection of food stalls offering varied cuisines in an open, casual setting that feels closer to a modern market hall.
For passengers, this means fewer bottlenecks at a single buffet and more flexibility throughout the day. NCL's Freestyle model means no fixed dining times, but popular venues can fill quickly, so timing matters at peak hours.
The food hall sits along Ocean Boulevard, making it easy to combine outdoor deck time with a quick meal. No reservations needed.
NCL's Freestyle dining has no fixed seatings. Popular restaurants and the food hall get busy around standard dinner hours. Consider off-peak timing.
Viva feels design-forward and spacious for its size, with much of its public space pushed outdoors along Ocean Boulevard. It avoids the sensory overload of 6,000-passenger ships while still offering plenty to do.
Viva is strongest for couples and friend groups who value good food, modern aesthetics, and a relaxed freestyle atmosphere over kids' programming or non-stop entertainment spectacles.
NCL's no-fixed-dining model gives you flexibility, but popular restaurants and the go-kart track fill up fast. Plan to book specialty dining and activities early, especially on sea days.
Viva
The Norwegian Viva was a very nice ship. Very well run. The staff were amazing.
Very modern sleek design. New food venues keep lines down and give very good options. Pools on deck 8 was a nice bonus. Balcony room war "roomier" than on other NCL ships. Shower better.
Rooms, staff and entertainment were fantastic. Food was tasty but not enough variety or upperend meals unless you are willing to pay extra at speciality dining or adding a cost to main dining. They moved us away from neighbors with kids as ruining our sleep way past midnight. They also corrected charges that weren't ours. Really nice ship as new!
We were very dissatisfied, as well as others we talked to, about the entertainment on the chip. In the theater we expected a. Res df performers to ENTERTAIN US AT EACH SHOW, NOT HAVE THEM USE THE CRUISE GUESTS AS PART OF THE SHOW. The Newlywed, or not so newlywed, show would of course be the exception. Their show of The Prom was a joke. Then they used the guests to play Deal or No Deal. The other negative was the two times my husband ordered a steak in the. Son dining room is was chewy and hard to cut. That was another common complaint we heard from other guests. Otherwise the food was pretty good. The ship was very nice and the crew was great and friendly.
Just came off the Norwegian Viva. Overall it was an great trip. The ship was beautiful and the staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. I just wish they had more entertainment at night. I felt that after 11:00 there was not much to do.
Viva is an excellent match for couples and adult groups who value thoughtful design, open-air public spaces like Ocean Boulevard, and varied dining anchored by the standout Indulge Food Hall — all on a ship that feels modern without tipping into mega-ship sensory overload. The tradeoff is NCL's Freestyle model: the relaxed no-reservation ethos means popular venues can get crowded at peak times, so passengers who prefer structured dining or guaranteed seating may find themselves competing for tables.
Norwegian Viva is the second of six Prima-class ships, functionally identical to sister ship Norwegian Prima but newer in service.
