Norwegian Aqua is the first Prima Plus class ship — a 156,300-ton vessel that takes everything NCL learned from Prima and Viva and gives it more room. More open deck space, a larger pool, expanded dining, and a three-storey wellness facility sit alongside the line's first hybrid waterslide-rollercoaster. It is the biggest investment NCL has made in the design-forward direction the Prima class started.
The ship suits travellers who want a modern, food-driven cruise without the sensory overload of the largest vessels afloat. It competes upmarket without leaving the mainstream price bracket, which makes it an interesting option for couples, experienced cruisers looking for something sharper, and anyone who has been curious about NCL's newer ships.
Aqua builds on the Prima-class blueprint with genuinely expanded spaces and a few features that are new to the NCL fleet entirely.
Aqua Slidecoaster
A hybrid waterslide-rollercoaster spanning the upper decks — free for all guests and genuinely thrilling enough for repeat rides.
Indulge Food Hall
An expanded multi-station food hall replacing the traditional buffet, widely cited as one of the better complimentary dining experiences in the mainstream market.
Expanded pool deck
Larger than Prima or Viva's pool area with more loungers and improved shade coverage, designed to reduce the crowding issues earlier ships occasionally faced.
Ocean Boulevard
A wrap-around outdoor promenade on Deck 8 with dining venues, bars, and lounge seating along its length — the ship's social spine.
The Haven
NCL's ship-within-a-ship suite complex is larger here than on any previous Prima-class vessel, with a private sundeck, dedicated restaurant, and expanded suite categories.
Three-storey wellness facility
A multi-deck spa and fitness complex that is one of the largest at sea in the mainstream cruise market, with thermal suites, treatment rooms, and a full gym.

Immersive entertainment programme
A show roster built around immersive, next-generation productions rather than traditional Broadway revues — designed for passengers who want something they have not seen before.
Studio cabins for solo travellers
Dedicated single-occupancy cabins that avoid the single supplement, keeping Aqua on the short list for solo cruisers.
Interactive darts and mini golf
Casual activity spaces on the upper decks that give passengers low-key social options beyond the pool and bars.
Expanded specialty restaurant lineup
New and returning specialty venues take advantage of the Prima Plus size increase, offering more variety than Prima or Viva at the paid-dining level.
Best match
For couples who want modern design and strong food
Contemporary interiors · Expanded dining · Open outdoor spaces
Aqua's clean aesthetic, serious restaurant lineup, and well-designed public spaces make it a natural fit for couples — particularly those who might otherwise choose a boutique hotel over a cruise. The ship feels current in a way that most mainstream vessels do not.
Great for
For experienced cruisers ready for something sharper
Mid-size feel · Less crowd density · Premium option in The Haven
If you have done the mega-ships and want a mainstream-priced cruise that feels more refined without jumping to the premium tier, Aqua occupies that middle ground well. The Haven also lets you step up within the same ship.
Great for
For solo travellers who want a new ship
Studio cabins · No single supplement · Active social areas
Dedicated studio cabins and a lively bar and lounge scene make Aqua one of the better mainstream options for people cruising alone. The Ocean Boulevard promenade is a natural place to be social without it feeling forced.
Aqua has a kids' programme and the Slidecoaster, but it is not built around families the way an Oasis-class ship is. If you need a ship where teenagers can disappear for eight hours and never get bored, a larger Royal Caribbean vessel is a better fit.
Dining
Dining That Competes Above Its Price
Norwegian Aqua's expanded Indulge Food Hall and deeper specialty restaurant lineup make dining the ship's strongest single feature. Early reviews consistently name the food as the reason to choose Aqua over comparably priced competitors.
The complimentary options are good enough to satisfy most passengers. But the specialty venues are where Aqua distinguishes itself, so budgeting for at least a few paid meals lets you experience what makes this ship different.
Worth knowing
Free at Sea bundles dining credits
Check what is included in your booking promotion. Dining credit terms vary by sailing date and cabin category.
Planning note
Specialty costs add up quickly
Budget $100 to $200 per person per day if you plan to eat at paid venues regularly. The headline fare does not reflect the full cost.
Pool Deck
Outdoor Spaces That Earned More Room
NCL expanded Aqua's pool deck and Ocean Boulevard promenade based on how passengers actually used Prima and Viva. The result is noticeably more lounger space, better shade, and a less congested flow around the main pool area.
For travellers who measure a cruise by how the sea days feel, Aqua's outdoor decks are a genuine improvement. The Slidecoaster adds energy up top, while the promenade keeps things relaxed at deck level.
Helpful tip
Arrive at the pool early
Loungers near the main pool still fill on sea days. Morning arrival or the quieter secondary areas give you more options.
Caveat
Upper decks carry noise below
Cabins on higher decks near the pool or Slidecoaster may pick up daytime noise. Mid-ship Decks 9 to 12 tend to be quietest.
More from this line

Aqua feels like a contemporary hotel that floats. The energy is social without being overwhelming, and the design language is clean and current. It is livelier than Celebrity, calmer than a mega-ship.
Ideal trip mindset
Eat well, explore at your pace
This ship rewards passengers who care about food, appreciate good design, and want unhurried time on outdoor decks. It is not built around constant activity — it is built around quality time in well-made spaces.
Key tradeoff
Base fare does not tell the full story
NCL's freestyle model means specialty dining, drinks, and excursions sit on top of the ticket price. The Free at Sea promotion offsets some of this, but total trip cost can climb significantly beyond the advertised rate.

★
The theater was way too small to accommodate the amount of passengers! Guest service was rude! Latitudes desk were sorry about the complaints I had I heard sorry that was the extent of every situation! I am Diamond with over 30 NCL cruises! Done with them! I will stick with RCCL and Celebrity going forward where recognize their loyal guests. And everyone across the board! The bathrooms were always dirty I never walked away from a ship so disappointed!

Don't waste your money on the Norwegian Aqua, April 18-25/26 cruise. One pool and one hot tub for the general public. Small buffet area, small theater. Passenger were fighting for seats for the elements and Prince shows. Water slide closed for 6 days during the cruise, welding and sensor malfunctions. Passenger on day 6 got trapped and had to crawl out. They packed as many cabins on board as possible. Sooooo overcrowded.

★★★★★
Just returned from an incredible sailing on the NCL Aqua, and it exceeded all expectations. The ship itself is stunning—modern, beautifully designed, and full of impressive spaces to explore. The dining experience was a true highlight; every meal was fantastic, with a great variety of flavors and high-quality presentation. What really made the trip special, though, was the outstanding staff. Their warmth and professionalism added a personal touch to every day. Truly a five-star experience from start to finish!

★★★
The Aqua is a beautiful ship. The entertainment offered was very good, unfortunately there needs to be more entertainment. We had to watch some shows twice to have something to do. The Atrium was a mess trying to watch a show with very little seating. The slot machines run into the Atrium area, so we had the pleasure of sitting by someone playing the slots while trying to watch a show. Poor design for the Atrium Overall, a clean and friendly ship. We were a little board on the days at sea not much for us to-do. Food was good and the 24-hour Local bar and grille is verry good.

The Aqua corrected a few flaws that the Prima & Viva had. Beautiful ship.
Norwegian Aqua is one of the most compelling mainstream ships sailing — a design-forward, food-driven vessel that competes above its price class. The tradeoff is an add-on cost structure that can push the total trip well beyond the headline fare, so budget for the full picture before you book.
