Ancient Thera
Ancient Thera is a Classical-era hilltop site on Mesa Vouno, between Kamari and Perissa. Visitors come for the ruins, the history and wide views over the island.
About Ancient Thera
Ancient Thera is an archaeological site from classical antiquity, built on Mesa Vouno, a limestone hill above Kamari. The city was dug out by excavations led by N. Zapheiropoulos between 1961 and 1982, and its necropolis at Sellada is part of the site.
A visit is mostly about the hill itself. You can take a bus or taxi up the cliff-side road, or walk one of the footpaths from either side of the mountain. Findings from the digs are in the archaeological museum in Fira, so you can see more of the story there.
