About Juneau Channel Island State Marine Park
Juneau Channel Island State Marine Park is a group of 14 islands in the waters off Juneau, Alaska's capital. The islands sit in the quiet, wild coastline that makes the town feel so remote, reachable only by air or by sea.
A visit is mostly on the water. Paddlers go out among the islands for wildlife viewing, photography and sport fishing. Ships dock just south of downtown Juneau, so getting out to the islands starts with a short walk to the waterfront and a boat from there.

Getting there, cost and time

Most of a day, given the boat trip out and back.
Good to know
- Juneau has no road or rail link, so the trip out is by boat. Plan the return against your ship's all-aboard time.
- Ships dock just south of downtown, and the furthest dock is about a 1 mile walk from the visitor center area or needs a shuttle.
- Guided and unguided trips are both used here, so check how the boat and gear are arranged before you go.

Mendenhall Glacier
A massive glacier calving into its own lake, and Juneau's most popular attraction. Most visitors look at the face from the visitor center, then walk the trails to Nugget Falls.
Nugget Falls
Nugget Falls is a 377-foot waterfall that drops into Mendenhall Lake, reached on a short, flat trail from the Mendenhall Glacier area. It is one of the most popular walks in Juneau.
Mount Roberts Trail
Mount Roberts is a 3,819 foot peak just east of downtown Juneau. Its trail starts at a trailhead on Basin Road and climbs steeply to the Mountain House and the summit.
