About Punta Sur Eco Park

Punta Sur is a natural state reserve of more than 1,000 hectares at the southern tip of Cozumel. It holds flora, fauna and lagoon systems, and it is the largest natural reserve on the island. The Celarain lighthouse stands on its promontory.

A visit is mostly a walk. The park has a lighthouse, a crocodile lagoon, dunes and a beach open to the sea on the wild eastern shore.

Good to know

  • The Eco Beach Park closes on Sundays, so plan a weekday visit.
  • Some sandy beaches in the park are protected so sea turtles can hatch.
  • Two beach clubs sit at the end of the dirt road, Papito's and the Punta Sur Beach Club.
  • There is no public transit out of town, so a taxi or a rental car is the way to go.
