The NCL Star is one of only two cruise ships in Norwegian Cruise Line’s highly innovative “Dawn-class”.  Built in 2001 (about a year before the Norwegian Dawn) and refurbished in 2010, the Norwegian Star laid the foundation for NCL’s “Freestyle Cruising” which was fully implemented when the Dawn was launched in 2002, and further popularized on Norwegian’s Jewel-class ships (the Jewel, the Pearl, the Jade and the Gem).

Featuring 13 dining options, 9 different bars and lounges, 2 swimming pools, multiple entertainment venues and a wide selection of stateroom accommodations, the Norwegian Star provides its guests with the ultimate opportunity to tailor their cruise according to their own unique personal preferences (and budget).

Starting with the lowest-priced inside staterooms (which can be found on all decks of the ship), this is the most affordable way to cruise.  Inside stateroom guests enjoy the same food, quality of service, entertainment and use of the ships public areas as all other guests onboard, but they pay less for their cruise because of the stateroom size (142 square feet) and the absence of a window overlooking the ocean.  Next up in size (and in cost) are the still-very-affordable ocean-view staterooms that feature a porthole or window (depending on price category).  At 159 square feet, the ocean-view staterooms on the NCL Star are just slightly larger (and cost slightly more) than the inside staterooms but many of the ocean-view staterooms can accommodate up to four guests via two lower beds and two pull-down beds.  Going up another “notch” in cost (and in roominess), you’ll find the standard balcony staterooms on the Star with floor-to-ceiling glass doors opening to a private veranda overlooking the sea.  With 203 square feet of space, the standard balcony staterooms can accommodate up to three guests.  Want more room?  Try a mini-suite with balcony with 283 square feet, or a full-size suite ranging in size from 409 square feet up to an incredible 6,694 square-foot Garden Villa with three separate bedrooms that can accommodate a total of up to eight guests.  It’s the ultimate in luxury cruising.

Hungry?  Not for long.  The Star’s two main dining rooms, “Aqua” and “Versailles”, can accommodate 334 and 491 guests respectively and, consistent with Norwegian Cruise Line’s signature “Freestyle Cruising”, there is no pre-determined “early seating” and “late seating”.  Instead, you decide when you want to eat each day and whom you want to dine with.  Reservations are suggested but not required.  Got a yen for Asian food?  Try the Ginza Asian restaurant or Teppanyaki (reservations required and a per person cover charge applies).  Italian?  No problemo.  Or, feast on some of the finest steaks at sea at Cagney’s specialty restaurant.  And, that’s just some of the dining options that are available on the Norwegian Star.

Did someone say entertainment?  There’s the Stardust Theater and the Star Club Casino where the action never stops.  Sports anyone?  Shoot some hoops, drive some golf balls, sprint in the indoor lap pool or workout at the Barong Spa.  Activities for children?  There are always plenty of fun things to do at Planet Kids, the Splash Pool, the Video Zone or the Teen Club.

Oh and, by the way, the NCL Star sails to some pretty incredible destinations from convenient homeport locations.  It’s convenient, exciting and a terrific value.
