MSC World America Review

From April 9th through April 12th of this year, I was invited to attend the christening event of MSC's highly anticipated new ship, the World America. The debut of MSC World America marks a bold new chapter for MSC Cruises, bringing one of their most innovative and ambitious vessels to the North American market.
The World America is truly an impressive ship, accommodating over 6,700 guests at full occupancy and stretching close to 1,100 feet in length. Make no mistake; the ship is BIG but, despite its size, it has a sleek exterior and the interior public spaces are well-designed to accommodate the larger passenger capacity.
Here are some quick stats on the World America:
216,000 tons | 1,094' length | 154' width | 6,762 passengers
Having never been on an MSC ship before the World America, I didn't know what to expect. After all, MSC (which stands for Mediterranean Shipping Company) is best known for having the largest fleet of cargo ships that transport goods from one country to another throughout the world. And, their earliest efforts to get into the modern cruise industry were met with "mixed reviews". But, in my opinion (and the opinion of many other professional travel advisors who I spoke with at this event), the World America is going to put MSC "on the map" as a serious player in the U.S. cruise market.
Let's start with the most impressive part of the ship; a huge 3-deck "mall" of unique shops, restaurants, bars and wall-to-wall "eye-candy" called the "World Galleria".

Then, there's a large open area at the back of the ship called the World Promenade where guests can eat, drink, dance and casually watch live entertainers perform under the stars while the ship is at sea. It's truly a magical and relaxing experience at sea.

And, it would be difficult to overlook the vast amount of space on this ship that is specifically dedicated to children in all different age groups. So, it's pretty obvious that the MSC World America will have big appeal with the American family market.

Design & AccommodationsThe World America is designed around the World Class concept, delivering a cosmopolitan experience that fuses European elegance with American hospitality. Staterooms range from stylish interior cabins to spacious suites in the exclusive MSC Yacht Club, the ship's luxurious "ship within a ship" concept. The members-only Yacht Club section of the ship provides guests with a private restaurant, lounge and pool area, along with butler service and other special amenities.

Dining ExperienceMSC World America excels in culinary diversity, offering more than a dozen restaurants and eateries. Guests can enjoy everything from authentic Italian fare and Mediterranean classics to Tex-Mex and Asian specialties. Highlights include the Butcher's Cut steakhouse, Kaito Sushi, and the immersive Chef's Garden Kitchen. The ship also introduces several new bars and lounges, including the Masters of the Sea British pub and Elixir Mixology Bar, ensuring there's something for every palate and mood. My personal recommendation is to make sure you go to deck 6 and try the pizza at the World America Pizza & Burger restaurant. I'm a big pizza aficionado and in my opinion, the MSC World America serves the best slice of pizza at sea!

Activities & EntertainmentThis ship is just packed with entertainment options. In addition to the World Promenade, which features stunning open-air space with panoramic views and nightly live performances, the World America has something for everyone. The multi-story MSC Luna Park Arena hosts a rotating schedule of shows and interactive experiences. Families will appreciate the expansive kid's clubs, water parks, and virtual reality attractions, while thrill-seekers can test their skills on the longest dry slide at sea, The Venom Drop @ the Spiral.

Ocean CayOne of my favorite "venues" on World America was not on the ship itself. It was MSC's private island, Ocean Cay. This sprawling paradise of pristine beaches is easily accessible from the ship and there are paved walkways throughout the island so getting from place to place is never difficult. In addition to the beaches, there are quaint shops as well as included eateries where the food is actually good (which is not always the case on some private islands). And, best of all, it's quiet and comfortable with more than enough lounge chairs, umbrellas and space to spread out and chill out.

My Final ImpressionsPerhaps the most impressive feature of World America (and most other MSC ships) is the incredible value they offer. With just a little bit of research, you'll find that MSC's rates range from good to unbelievably good to "what's the catch?" But there is no "catch". The rates quoted are the rates you pay and, although you can add optional extras if you want, a budget-conscious family of 2, 3 or 4 can afford a fabulous vacation that they never dreamed possible. The rates will probably increase somewhat as this brand new ship catches on and the positive word of mouth spreads. So, now may be the best time to look into reserving your next cruise vacation on the NEW MSC World America.
