Overview
Independence of the Seas is the last build of the three Royal Caribbean Freedom-class ships. When it comes to cruising, do you think you’ve seen it all? Let me tell you, until you’ve stepped on board one of these Freedom-class ships, you ain’t seen nothing yet! This is a ship that the whole family will enjoy, from the youngest cruisers to grandma and grandpa.

Imagine surfing at sea…no not in the sea, on the ship! The FlowRider, an amazing surf simulator, combines the excitement of body surfing, in a wet, wild and (best of all) safe environment. And for those that don’t have the courage to try it for themselves, flow riding is just as thrilling as a spectator sport! Another activity to get adrenaline pumping is the rock wall. Whether it’s your first time or you’re a seasoned climber, there are challenges for all levels of experience.  Thank goodness you don’t need any skill for a round of mini golf at Independence Dunes.  The whole family will enjoy a little friendly competition at this 9-hole course.

Guests can stay in shape by working up a sweat on the sports court or fitness center.  It has all the equipment that major sports clubs do: weight machines, free weights, stationary spin bikes, stair steppers, treadmills, sauna, whirlpool, steam room, and thermal suites. Plus a sweeping ocean view!

Indulge in a bit a hedonistic pleasure at the European day spa.  From lavish treatment rooms with ocean views to luxurious therapies inspired by exotic cultures, a few hours spent here is pure delight.

Stay cool in the two outdoor pools or an indoor/outdoor solarium pool that can be covered when the weather chooses not to cooperate. Kids love the wet and wild H2O Zone where the water shoots from geysers, waterfalls, fountains and sculptures!

There are many places to enjoy a good meal on the Independence of the Seas. The main dining room is elegant 3- story room with the different levels connected by a grand, sweeping staircase.
For a change of pace guests may make a reservation to dine at Portofino or Chops Grille.  Jade Restaurant serves Asian specialties and sushi.  Casual dining options include the Windjammer Café, Johnny Rockets 50’s style diner, Café Promenade, and Sorrento’s Pizzeria.

In the evenings, there are street parties and parades staged by the crew in the Royal Promenade complete with costumes, stilt walkers, floats, colored lights, smoke and music.  The shows are always spectacular, whether you’re watching an extravaganza starring the Royal Caribbean Singers and Dancers or the talented world class figure skaters. Many of the bars and lounges have live music, dancing, or piano sing-a-longs. Vintages, Royal Caribbean’s first wine bar at sea, is a warm and inviting spot. The menu includes a range of options from some of the best wine-producing regions in the world.
