When planning your Caribbean vacation, don’t you want some variety? Everyone envisions a different vacation experience, and as such, they want to find a cruise line that fits their fancy.
Starting your trip from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida presents such options. The cruise port, not far from the Caribbean, lets you select from smaller luxury liners to large contemporary ships. In fact, to exemplify that variety, Ft. Lauderdale is home to nine cruise lines total and sees 43 ships pass through during the year, with most taking travelers to the Caribbean.
Looking to travel around the islands, bask in the sun, and take in the culture, before returning to the U.S.? You’ll be able to schedule your trip on board one of the following:
• Royal Caribbean
• Princess Cruises
• Holland America
• Celebrity Cruises
• Carnival Cruise Line
• Seabourn
• Silversea
Depending upon where you want to go, trips last three nights or longer.
Because of Ft. Lauderdale’s proximity to the Caribbean, you’ll have a choice of three itinerary types:
Eastern: The most accessible, these itineraries closer to home frequently start off with the Bahamas, Virgin Islands, and Turks and Caicos. But, let’s say you want to explore more. From there, your itinerary turns into a tour of cultures, beaches, and resorts through St. Maarten, the Dominican Republic, St. Kitts, Barbados, St. Vincent, St. Lucia, and Grenada.
Western: Explore the farther side of the Caribbean region, which includes the Greater Antilles and part of Central America. Your cruise will first take you through the towns and beaches of Jamaica and Grand Cayman, possibly first with a stop in Key West. Then, as the liner makes its way across the ocean, you’ll visit Cozumel in Mexico and Roatan, Honduras, both known for their snorkeling, kayaking, and scuba-diving activities and historical ruins.
Southern: When you’re looking for something off the beaten path, take this longer trip to Aruba and South America. Your itinerary may take you to coastal towns in Colombia, pass through the Panama Canal, and then spend time in Costa Rica’s beautiful beaches.
