Royal Caribbean Radiance of the Seas

Radiance of the Seas is the first of a class of four ships that bear her name. These ships were never the biggest in the fleet, even when they first debuted, as that was never the goal. In a sea of mega-ships (literally) these beauties evoke more of a glamorous feel with wide open spaces and acres of towering glass windows. They are bright, airy, and it seems like you have a view of sea and sky from everywhere.  Yet that’s not all this ship has to offer.

The top decks have a 9-hole miniature-golf course and golf simulators, a jogging track, a rock-climbing wall attached to the funnel, and a combo basketball, volleyball, and paddle-tennis court. The fitness center and day spa are state-of-the-art.

Keep cool onboard in one of the three pools; there is a main pool, an adult-only solarium pool, and a children’s pool and water slide located
adjacent to the Adventure Ocean kid’s club.  There is a giant screen perched atop the main pool area to watch movies and sporting events under the stars. Those preferring to soak in warm waters will find the many whirlpools to be the ultimate in relaxation.

The two-story Cascades Dining Room is lovely and serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.  Guests may choose from the 6pm (approx.) main dining, 8pm (approx.) late dining, or My Time Dining, which is open seating. Buffet meals are served at the Windjammer Café where there is also an outside
Solarium pool on the Radiance of the Seasseating area, a perfect breakfast spot!  The Park Café, located in the solarium, is a deli of sorts serving paninis, sandwiches (including breakfast sandwiches) and salads. A fun little outdoor counter service restaurant is The Boardwalk Dog House, perfect for quick “grab and go” hot dogs, brats and sausage sandwiches

Specialty restaurant dining on the Radiance of the Seas is like a trip around the world. Chops Grille serves a meal as good as any big city steak house. There’s also a Brazilian-style steakhouse, the Samba Grill. For the taste of a traditional Italian trattoria, Giovannis’s Table will satisfy with classic dishes served up family style. Izumi, a restaurant that features Asian cuisine has a set sushi menu, as well as a special roll created each night by the chef. Hot Rock (Ishiyaki) meals are also served. The food comes to the table with a piping-hot ishiyaki stone (Japanese cooking stone) and guests can sear their food on the heated stone to their taste—lightly seared or completely cooked. Lastly, Rita’s Cantina serves Mexican fare along with the best margaritas at sea.

After dinner, guests can catch a show starring the Royal Caribbean Singers and Dancers at the beautiful Aurora Theater. Other nights there may be a comedian, musician, singer, or magician. A novel way to spend some time is by playing a game of Eight Ball on a self-leveling pool table at the Colony Club. There is a casino, a disco and many bars / lounges including a sports bar, the Schooner Bar, the Viking Crown Lounge and the English Pub, the Quill and Compass.

Royal Caribbean mini-golfingWhile all Royal Caribbean ships offer the award winning Adventure Ocean children’s programs for ages 3-17, the Radiance also has the Royal Babies and Tots Nursery where the littlest of cruisers can be left in the care of trained professionals.
