Overview
Jewel of the Seas was the last build of Royal Caribbean’s Radiance class, quite possibly the most beautiful class in the Royal Caribbean fleet. And while that is a totally subjective statement, it is hard to disagree with the fact that these ships are gorgeous! Glass is used excessively, filling the ship with natural light and keeping the sea and spectacular scenery always in view. Yet that is just the beginning of what guests can look forward to.

Jewel of the Seas GolfThere is always something to do on a Royal Caribbean ship and the Jewel of the Seas is no exception. There is a rock climbing wall, a sports court, a jogging track, miniature golf, golf simulators, fitness center and day spa. The main pool and adjacent hot tub area is the hub for sea day activity. A band plays on most of these afternoons and the cruise director is usually around organizing dances or games. Guests looking for a more peaceful pool area will find serenity in the adult-only solarium complete with its own pool, hot tubs and retractable roof. Families with small children can play in the splash pool and water slide of the Adventure Beach area.

Voyager of the Seas Rock ClimbingAdventure Ocean is Royal Caribbean’s award winning, complimentary children’s program. Parents can feel confident leaving their children because every member of the Adventure Ocean staff holds a college degree in education, recreation, or other related field, or has qualified-equivalent experience working with children ages 3-17. Distinct age groups assure that children are always participating in age appropriate activities. Arts and crafts activities are sponsored by Crayola and allow creativity while learning about the art, history and culture of the places they’re visiting.  Adventure Science is a science-based lab where children can do experiments like making “flubber” or erupting volcanoes. All ages have scheduled time outside at the sports court and mini golf course.  Older kids can enjoy scavenger hunts, dance parties, karaoke and video game challenges.  Teens have their own lounges and disco.

Jewel of the Seas DiningThere are many dining options available on the Jewel of the Seas.  Tides Dining room is open for three meals each day. At dinner guests may choose from traditional early seating, traditional late seating or open seating which Royal Caribbean calls “My Time” Dining.

The two specialty restaurants onboard, Chops Grille and Portofino provide the ultimate dining experience. There is a small surcharge but comparable meals in a city restaurant would cost ten times as much.  Reservations can be made online prior to sailing.

For more casual meals guests can visit the Windjammer Café or the Seaview Café. A pizzeria can be found up by the solarium and is open late into the night for those with a case of the munchies. Café Latte-tudes, off the Centrum, serves specialty coffee drinks and pastries.

Jewel of the Seas BilliardsThere are numerous bars and lounges, many with live music, to visit before or after dinner. The Safari Club is actually several lounges in one.  There’s a room to play billiards, cards and games, plus lots of seating for lounging and enjoying cocktails and live music.  There is a casino, a cinema and the beautiful Coral Theater which features lavish production shows starring the Royal Caribbean Singers and Dancers.

Consumer Review:I booked a room with a balcony specifically for its use. However, a very heavy smoker was in the room next door and made the use of my balconey unbearable. I lost many enjoyable moments by the inability to withstand the stentch from those guests. Upon comlaint to the desk, all rooms were booked and we were unable to change to a smoke free balcony. Why can't the ship have a limited number of rooms for such patrons, so the non-smokers can enjoy their trip? This really was a dissapointment.
Consumer Review:SUB PAR FOOD QUALITY COMPARED TO NCL. LAST TABLE TO BE SERVED AT DINNER (WAS IT BECAUSE WE WERE ON THE 3RD DECK ?). BAR SERVICE STINKS (HAD TO GO TO THE BAR OR HUNT FOR A WAITER TO ORDER A DRINK MOST OF THE TIME). CASINO IS A JOKE...HOLDEM' POKER "HOUSE TAKE" 15% ??? ROBBERY!
Consumer Review:We have traveled this itinerary before except for the stop in Rockland Me. and had poor weather We wanted to try this itineray again and were traveling with family this time. Embarkation was very orgainized and smooth. The cabin was ready for 1 p.m. and was nice and clean. We decided to book and inside cabin this time since we would be in port all day and traveling at night. We were very happy with our selection and room location. Food: We ate in the Dining Room every night and were very pleased with our Waiter and Asst Waiter. The food selection was good. We ate in both the Windjammer and the Dining Room for Breakfast and Lunch. Service was great and the selections were good as well. Most of the time it was fairly easy to find seating in the Windjammer. On sea days it was a bit more crowded. We ate in the Seaview Cafe twice and the food selection was okay for a quick bite. The chilli and chowder were exceptionally good. We enjoyed the entertainment and the Cruise Director (Dan) was one of the best. We went to all the shows and enjoyed them all. The ship (Jewel of the Seas) overall, is our favorite. The crew is most friendly and accomodating. The ship is just the right size and we are looking to sailing on her again. I was very pleased with the service from Direct Line Cruises and would definately use them again. All of our requests were met, the onboard credit was applied without any problem and our reservations were linked. I have done business with other Travel Agents and have always had something go wrong. Thank You Direct Line Cruises for making our cruise a memorable one.
Consumer Review:Will not book any shore excursions with the cruise ship again. Whale watching tour was a bust, and RCI only wanted to issue a pass for another time. I probably will never go to Bar Harbor again and take a whale watching tour, especially since it took 25 years to go on this trip.
