Overview
Originally launched as the Pride of Hawaii in 2006, the Norwegian Jade was re-christened in 2008 when it left the Hawaii cruise market.  Like it’s “sister ships” (the Jewel, the Pearl and the Gem), the NCL Jade was specifically designed by Norwegian Cruise Line for “Freestyle Cruising”.

Norwegian Cruise Line TepanyakiIn addition to two main dining rooms (the “Alizar” and the “Grand Pacific”), the NCL Jade features a wide variety of ethnic specialty restaurants (Chinese, French, Mexican, Italian and Japanese) which have a cover charge of $10 to $30 per person, as well as several other dining venues (such as the “Blue Lagoon”, the “Garden Café” and the “Great Outdoors”) that are included in the cruise ticket price.

Of course, cruising is not all about eating.  So the NCL Jade also offers 10 lounges, nightclubs with live music and dancing, a Vegas-style grand Norwegian Cruise Line Casinocasino, a spa and beauty salon, a complete fitness center, duty-free shopping in the Galleria Boutique and Broadway-style shows in the “Stardust Theater” which can comfortably seat over 1,000 guests.

Pricing and cabin size runs the gamut from 161 square feet (for the most budget-conscious guests) to 4,719 square foot Garden Villas (which are definitely not for the most budget-conscious guests).

Many different itineraries are offered, so let the NCL Jade take you somewhere that you’ve never been before.

Consumer Review:As I informed myself on ports, excursions where overcharged. One was able to do excursions for less money, half or less than the cruise, outside the cruise.
Consumer Review:I loved the freestyle dining--some days we wanted to eat earlier based on the evening's activities; sometimes we wanted to eat late. Sometimes we had a snack at the informal dining, then had two for one martinis, then had the more formal dinner! With all that food it was nice that the Jade has a very nice gym!
Consumer Review:Norwegian Jade apparently wants guests to spend their money on the specialty restaurants since the main dining room and the Alizar were not up to the standard expected. Our previous 6 cruises were all on Celebrity where we felt no need for a specialty restaurant since the main dining room food and service were terrific. On the Jade, the food and service in the "free" dining areas was quite poor. Even in Cagney's (with a cover of $25 per person PLUS another $10 each if you ordered some meals!) the service was awful! Most of the food in the Jade's cover charge restaurants was available in the main dining room on Celebrity.
Consumer Review:Overall very disappointed with Norwegian. First to be positive: The Jade is a beautiful ship and very well maintained. The mini suite stateroom was large, well layed out and very comfortable. The evening entertainment was enjoyable. Excursions were overpriced for what was received. We were very satisfied with Monaco and the Isle of Capri. Pisa and Tuscany not only overpriced but we had a tour guide that did and said almost nothing because she didn't speak English. We have experienced a similar tour on Royal Carib which was excellent. In Palma once again a half day tour of a Pearl factory was uninformative and a waste of money due mostly to a tour guide who had a very difficult time speaking and communicating English. Palma is a great place to visit and we enjoyed the afternoon on our own leaving the tour. ( Guide said ok with him, could care less). On the negative: After pulling out of port in Barcelona we had a drill. We were assembled in the Asian restaurant and told this would be our meeting place. (NO Lifepreservers were required and we never assembled on the deck). When I inquired the manager told me in case of emergency just come to this meeting place. Much to much space on the ship dedicated to restaurants (I understand, part of the freestyle). My observation they were mostly empty each night. When I checked the reservation boards each night they were always green never a wait. We ate mostly in the rear free dining room. Beautifully appointed and never a wait. (except for food, average time spent waiting 45 minutes) and twice the food was cold and returned. Room service sucked. Could not get any hot breakfasts. Twice before early excursions breakfast was delivered at 5:30 am instead of 6:30 am. The first time before the two early arrivals they were 45 minutes late and we didnt have time before the excusrion. (ate on shore) Took advantage of having clothes washed and dry cleaned. (waited 3 days for return and I had to call to get it back) One day of cruising from Naples to Palma. Norwegian dosen't know what to do with 2400 passengers for a day at sea. Good thing free movies in the cabin. The gift shop (Galleria) overpriced and under staffed. Wanting a snack (which you shouldnt anyway) $10.00 for a giant candy bar or $5.00 for a giant box of Pringles. FYI on the day of the all day across the Med. we chose to play bingo. We were with another couple and we purchased the (best deal) $100.00 per deal. WOW. To play 4 games. Okay, okay you get the message. We did absolutely enjoy the cruise. The service from Direct was great and we will crusie again in 2011 and use Direct to book, but never, never again on Norwegian. So when I win the free cruise please make sure its on another crusie ship line. Bernard Cutler I am available to discuss this crusie, call me if you want to.
Consumer Review:We were on the relocation cruise from New York to Venice via Azores, Lisbon, Cadiz and Malaga. The Norwegian Gem was a great ship - wonderful food and lots of it, great staff, and great value. We had relatively smooth seas for an Atlantic crossing. Sailing into Venice was an experience of a lifetime. All in all we had a very relaxing 2 weeks on board.
Consumer Review:We were positively amazed by you security and cleanlynes activities.
