Holland America Prinsendam

Everything about the MS Prinsendam communicates grandiosity – except for the size. The Holland America ship was built originally in 1988 with a design for reaching the world’s most exotic locations. Yet even with an intimate, yacht-like feel pervading, its interior still has a sense of spaciousness. The ship offers enough room for 835 passengers – less than half the cruise line’s typical, mid-sized amount. A sculpture, placed in the ship’s three-story atrium, sits at the center. Images of dolphins, fish, and turtles are etched onto Bolle glass, which is then illuminated with high-quality fiber optics. Joining this piece is a marble sculpture of a Viking ship, a collection of Impressionistic paintings, and a collection of Roman Amphorae from 50 A.D. to 150 A.D.

About The Ship

Couple on Balcony of Holland America PrinsendamMeaning “princes,” the MS Prinsendam originated as the Royal Viking Sun and later became the Seabourne Sun. Holland America turned it into the vessel it is today in 2001. Currently, the ship travels Grand Voyage itineraries to South America, Europe, the Mediterranean, and the Caribbean. Even with its smaller size, the MS Prinsendam still features Holland America’s standard stateroom assortment: Interior, Ocean-View, Verandah, and Verandah Suites. The three basic options provide a luxurious trip, of Euro-top beds and massaging showerheads, salon-quality hairdryers, a television with a DVD collection, and fresh fruit on request. The Verandah Suites provide an upgrade. Building upon the standard features are a one-touch phone, mini-bar, a beautiful view, fresh flowers, and high tea upon request. On this ship, guests can dine in the Fontaine Dining Room, an elegant space where five-course continental meals are served. Be sure to try the wine list, and vegetarian and low-carb meals are available. Other specialty options include: Pinnacle Grill: Enjoy a meal of top-grade beef or seafood with wine in an elegant, intimate setting. Canaletto: Quality Italian cuisine is served in a classy restaurant atmosphere on the high seas. Lido Restaurant: Cooked-to-order meals made with fresh ingredients are served in a relaxed setting. Explorations Café: Start your day on your own terms with a cup of coffee and a paper in this coffeehouse atmosphere. A library of books and Wi-Fi are available in this space.
