Celebrity Cruises DiningOverview
From top to bottom, the eleven decks aboard the Celebrity Summit offer a level of excitement which parallels the vastness of the ship itself.  Spanning nearly a fifth of a mile from stem to stern and weighing in at more than 91,000 gross registered tons, the Summit offers a degree of elegance travelers have come to expect aboard Celebrity’s Millennium class liners.

Two decks above the ocean waters, guests may utilize the vast conference and cinema center, as well as smaller meeting rooms.  Continuing the ascent, the Fortunes casino and a myriad of clubs and lounges grace the next two decks.  Here, in the aft section of the ship, the Cosmopolitan Restaurant is found, so magnificent it reaches two full decks in height.  And while a double-deck high facility is impressive, the Celebrity Theater goes one better, scaling three forward decks.

Continuing a vertical tour of the Celebrity Summit, the ensuing quartet of decks offer meticulously appointed standard interior and ocean-view staterooms which, at a minimum size of 170 square feet, are among the roomiest of any major cruise line.  For those who want to feel at one with nature, the Summit’s veranda staterooms are highly recommended.  With floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors that open out to a private balcony, guests in these staterooms are afforded a unique opportunity to enjoy the solitude of the ocean or the vast beauty of a moonlit starry night.

Celebrity Cruises PoolThe aerobic center, the Aqua spa, and the Seaside pool, the Seaside café and the Seaside grill grace the next step up, all located on the aptly named Resort deck.  The summit of the Summit boasts the Fun Factory, video arcade, basketball court and a nearly one-quarter mile long jogging track.

From forward to aft (measuring 965 feet), side-to-side (measuring 105 feet) and from bottom to top, the Celebrity Summit offers a wide array of activities to its valued passengers. Ranging from the uniqueness of the Celebrity Theater to the elegance of the Normandie Restaurant; from the relaxed atmosphere of its many clubs and lounges to the non-stop excitement experienced at Fortunes casino, the diverse levels of entertainment aboard the Celebrity Summit are among the highest the cruise industry has to offer.

Consumer Review:"We booked a cruise to Bermuda from Bayonne NJ on the Celebrity Summit. The booking agents were great and the ship top-notch: classy without being stuffy. Only glitch was a periodic loss of toilet function, likely because someone in an upper deck cabin was flushing items that could not be digested. Several blocks of rooms were knocked out. The Celebrity plumbers got on the challenge, opening up passageway panels to clear the blockages. Guest Services on board responded with a bottle of champagne for the inconvenience. I was turned down for a tour of the mechanical areas of the ship (security reasons), but was invited to a very informative bridge tour by the captain. We would definitely book a Celebrity cruise again through Direct Line Cruises.
Consumer Review:All 30 of us had a wonderful time. My wife and I won 1st place in the not so newlywed game.We were the longest married,53yrs.and we knew all the answers to the questions asked of each other. The water was very calm and weather fantistic.
Consumer Review:Although the ship was older and didn't have the physical flow for moving around the ship easily, my family and I enjoyed the experience as the best of the 5 cruises we have taken. The service and food were very good and the evening entertainment was fabulous. My two adult children, in their early twenties, were up until late dancing to the Magnitude band. The poolside entertainment was very good as well. We loved James' energy. The night time shows were OK. I would say 50% were entertaining. Everyone on the cruise, both crew and guests, were really friendly. Our overall experience was excellent.
Consumer Review:An exceptional experience.Organization was like clockwork !
Consumer Review:Both my husband and I had a wonderful time in Bermuda. Food was excellent, beaches were beautiful, people were friendly. We could not of had a better time. We will definitely book another cruise to Bermuda. Thank you for taking such good care of us. We appreciate it. We would recommend Direct Cruise Line to all of our friends. Take care, Diane Soyak
Consumer Review:Buffet food was limited and the food was cold by the time we were seated. Servers at buffet had limited use of English. Main dining room was very noisy but service there was very good. The entertainment was fair, parts of some shows were repeated. Formal night was scheduled on excursion days, getting to the resturants and shows on time wwas very hectic. Safety drill was a joke, we were not even outside on the deck. Disembarking in New Jersey was poorly done, too much confusion as to where to go. Prefer cruising on Royal Carribean any day.
Consumer Review:Celebrity Cruise Line treats all it's customers exceptional. All of are cruises on Celebrity have been great.
Consumer Review:Celebrity in my opinion is the best. They give you personal attention to make you feel like you are the most important customer on the ship! It was first class all the way!
Consumer Review:Celebrity is the best cruise line that we've been on...and we've tried most of them over the years. They always go the "extra mile" for being accommodating, friendly and showing appreciation for the business. On the down side...we were disappointed to find out they were no longer cruising out of Baltimore. However, we've cruised twice out of Cape Liberty, N.J. and found it O.K.
Consumer Review:Celebrity Summit has the best customer service there is!
Consumer Review:Celebrity Summit is the best. Our 3rd/4th time sailing on it. (we did back to back cruises) First time as Elite members. Excellent perks now - will stay with Celebrity. We prefer this size ship.
Consumer Review:Celebrity Summit overall was a ok, however, I have had and there certainly are better. The cost is skyrocketing no matter where you go. But one area I want to point out is the BOOZE PACKAGE: "Forget the Booze packages, they are a rip off." If you buy them, they can not be used in your room. Use only at the bar, dining rooms or grille's. They don't spell that out to you at point of purchase. I bought mine from the 800 # when i had issues with their on-line system. So much for a drink on the Balcony you just paid dearly to use. In short, the Booze Packages are not worth it. We used it half of Saturday on arrival and Sunday, I canceled it Monday when I found I could not get room service with it Sunday night. Yet Celebrity's Bar Manager would only refunded four days of the package when we complained and told them we did not want them with the in-room use restrictions. Go figure, "Celebrity Mathematics," I guess. MEDICAL: Don't get sick, I stopped into the medical unit to let them know the wife was not feeling well. What a waste of time that was. The young woman I spoke to looked away from whatever she had on the computer for about 5 seconds, long enough to give me a look like "What do you want?" After I told her about my wife and asked if i could get someone to check in on her, she continued to play on their computer. Two other women sat along side of her none shouwed an interest in what I had to say or showed any concern with regard to the wife. They were to busy playing on their computer. Aside from that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play???...My opinion, our experience on Celebrity Summit was just "OK," not great or memorable. Will I go back? Not anytime soon.
Consumer Review:Cruise good value; embarkation was slow, requiring lengthy wait in line; due to medical issues, caused my wife difficulty (which she could have mitigated by requesting wheel chair assistance, but,... Nevertheless, lines on embarkation long & slow). Disembarking much smoother. Waits for tender at Newport reached into several hrs - we've taken over 50 cruises round the world, tendering into many ports (some in 3rd or 4th world countries) over the yrs, none as long a wait as attempting to get into Newport, RI - several hrs b4 many could lv ship. Charging $16.75PP for shuttle into Boston absurd - $33.50 per couple. Cruise largely "older" folk, most who weren't going to walk 45 mins (ship said) ea way to town. Celebrity knew characteristics of passengers a priori; shuttle should have been free or much reduced $. We cruised to NE/CN couple yrs back fr Balto on RCL; shuttle into Boston was either free or only few $s - not $16.75PP. Cabin svc xcellent; dining rm svc also - coffee/ice tea always at table when we arrv for dinner; always promptly refilled, etc - great attn to detail. Food good, but not = to HAL & other upscale lines - still not complaining it was not bad in any way. Entertainment was often quite good; couple times just good. If I could discuss w/line mgmt would suggest at least 1 comedian remember he was performing b4 an international audience - some jokes/comments regarding other countries (CN) mite not b well rcvd by its citizens. Ship clean, neat. Cabins well furnished, well arranged. Internal decorations/highlites/pictures/paintings/art work/etc. not up to stds of other upscale lines, but not bad. Prefer to not post comments on WEB since I haven't really thought in depth about all issues & firing fr hip, so to speak - also sentences/spelling/etc. r poor. Am happy to share thoughts/perspectives Celebrity mgmt, but have found over yrs doing so w/Guest Relations (whatever its is called) is an xercise is futility - I can prepare the written response I'll rcv back b4 I send the ltr. I'd encourage YOU (DLC) to consider arranging for shuttle svc fr the DC/Balto area to NY/NJ area for cruises. Likely u'll dismiss my comments, but I'm 100% sure u & the lines u promote lose a lot of business fr NJ/NY cause many of us just find connecting w/cruises up there too difficult. Flying up there, for many of us, is out of the question. $ of air + trouble getting to/fr airport & thru airport security & often luggage charges, etc. make flying a non-alternative for nearby cruisers. Train has many problems assoc w/air. Then, there is driving. A hassle + parking can b xpensive. Driving up a day or 2 early often entails xpensive hotels. So? A really nice option would b for u (or the cruise lines jointly at a corporate lvl (RCCL, Carnival, etc.)) to offer (for a reasonable charge) shuttle svc fr the Balto/DC area to/from the NJ/NY ports. Likely the buses that take passengers to NY/NJ one AM could return disembarking passenegrs the same day. I know accommodations/coordination would b required, but I suspect a zillion more people fr this area would entertain cruising out of NY/NJ if connecting were easier/cheaper. Bet same logic could b applied to other NY/NJ surrounding metro areas. I cannot reach high lvls of cruise line mgmt to pitch my position - mayb u can. After we've taken 1 or 2 cruises out of Balto, they r all alike & we lose interest. Greater selection fr NY/NJ would benefit all. Last, I'd suggest to mgmt it offer more "longer" cruises fr east coast - NY/NJ fine if I can take a shuttle. We took his 2 wk cruise; we would not have booked a 1 wk cruise; too much trouble to get to NJ for a 1 wk cruise. I realize in summer lines r directing svc to families, etc. who have a wk to spend away fr work, etc. But during many other times of the yr, the mkt is older people who'd respond to longer cruises if the $ was good AND getting to/from was easy - few longer cruises now & getting to/fr is not easy. More than u cared to hear/read.
Consumer Review:Cruise was great. Service was excellent. The only problem was getting on and off the ship.
Consumer Review:Customer Service desk response was poor. Had a need for frozen medical jell packs for my trip home. After a visit to the desk, and three phone calls and a second desk visit (in a ten hour period) the jell packs were picked up and taken to the medical department. If you have any special needs you have to apply a lot of pressure.
Consumer Review:Entertainment was fabulous. Just as good as NY broadway shows. Totally exceeded our expectations. Staff was very helpful. Our stateroom #6093 needs some special cleaning of carpets and decorative pillows placed on top of sleep pillows were stained, so it seemed that they were not clean. Our stateroom attendant must have been new and not yet trained? We saw him at introduction time and asked for ice 3x a day. We needed to either call room service or do without. Once the ice bucket was removed with our wine for several hours. The next to last day we returned to room to find a dirty ice bucket: A dirty coffee cup w/ a little coffee at bottom and a dirty paper napkin UNDER THE ICE!! Pretty disgusting. I called attendant and he apologized saying when they put ice in "someone" didn't realize there was dirty stuff left in bucket. AND IT WASN'T OURS!! This is how disease spreads in addition to giving us the impression that the ship is not totally sanitary and attentive to sanitary code. Also, when he returned with a full ice bucket, seemed there was one dirty cube on top. His response was: He cleaned the ice himself!!! So we just threw it away. All our other friends had a good experience with their attendants. We were not as fortunate. Didn't want to spend our time at Guest Services complaining, but did leave a bad impression of stateroom staff.
Consumer Review:Everyone had told me this was a step up from Royal Carribbean. NOT!!! I understand this was an older ship, but the food was tasteless, service was terrible especially in any areas outside the dining room. Activities very limited, and if I had known this was a lecture ship ,and I don't mind learning something new but I would have gone from nurse to physician school. Definetly will not cruise with Celebrity again
Consumer Review:Having travelled for years on Royal Caribbean, we were very happy with our first Celebrity experience. We met wonderful people and had a great time. Thank you, Direct LIne Cruises.
Consumer Review:I always cruise Celebrity for the food and service. Although the food is not as good as it used to be, the service is still excellent. Bayonne to Bermuda would be a much better trip if the ship could still doc in Hamilton and/or St. George, but Kings Wharf has greatly improved and it is quite easy to get to any part of the Island from there.
Consumer Review:I cannot say enough good things about the Celebrity Line. The food was excellent; the entertainment was better than Broadway; the service above and beyond and extremely clean. They definitely get five stars from me for the overall package.
Consumer Review:I have cruised with Celebrity for 19 of their 20 years in service - have been on approximately 15 cruises with them - most to Bermuda - my first was on the Horizon. Sadly, I and many "seasoned Celebrity cruisers" have found the quality of the food is nowhere near where it used to be. The broiled Lobster tail (a real favorite onboard) is no more - been replaced with a small half lobster tail, shrimp and a scallop with risotto. Choices are sometimes strange - for instance there was a potato soup that had sauteed frogs legs in it. I rarely ordered an appetizer as they have done away with what used to be a marvelous selection - something for everyone - and replaced them with what I can only assume they think is a more upscale selection. The lunch buffet was, for me, in a word, awful - I had salad every day. The head chef for the line comes from South Africa (as far as I know this is not a place known for their cuisine) - the former head chef was french - Michele Roux - they should never have let him go - "fixing what was not broken" is, in my opinion, foolish. I also do not like going to the dockyard in Bermuda - way too out of the way. While I have already booked the Silhouette for 11/6/11, if I go back to Bermuda next year - I will look into the Holland America line - they dock in Hamilton. Sorry to be so lengthy here but I also do not like the new Celebrity philosophy - too many "seminars" - too much trying to sell you stuff - not too much fun things. I do not want to learn about botox while on vacation. I am an elite captain's club member and I can't tell you the number of "special invitations" I received in my room asking us to join the captain (as one example) in the jewelry shop for a presentation of chocolate diamonds. I received other similar special invites - each one was to something I eventually could purchase. I did enjoy the sail away from the heliport at the front of the ship, though. Thanks for taking the time to seek out my opinion. Judy Warzenski
Consumer Review:I was not pleased with the dress code on the Summit. On casual nights the men had to wear long pants and dress shirts, no docker shorts. They could wear jeans. I really feel this was a bit much. We were on vacation and I feel a nice pair of dress shorts would have been ok. For this reason I do not think we would ever sail with Celebrity again unless we skipped the dining room whick we do enjoy.
Consumer Review:I was on my honeymoon, it was a nice cruise, but I felt the entertainment was lacking. Not much to do at night. Other cruises that I have been on (2 Royal Carribean and a Carnival), always had fun things to do. Examples, sexy legs contests, belly flop contests. Raggay music playing all the time. The pools were open till ten, here they closed at 7 pm. Out of the seven nights, three or more were formal nights. They have programs that they try to push, "Renew" was one of them, more of a healthy thing. But you are here to have fun and sit around and get lectured about botox, or skin care or whatever. The sitting at dinner was different. We were sitted with two other honeymooners, which is fine, but we did not know that we could get select sitting, which we could of eaten by ourselves. Which would of made a differnce.
Consumer Review:I would definitely recommend Celebrity Cruise Line. The service provided by the Staff is incredible. They anticipate your every need. Not to mention the ship is well kept. There was nothing I was unsatisfied with.
Consumer Review:I would recommend the open dining areas to eat since there are more than a couple different options: Italian, asian and indian foods. The sushi bar is excellent and they have different offerings each day. I was very disappointed with the formal dining (we had late dinner timing). The food left a lot to be desired especially since I have already traveled on Royal Caribbean and Carnival so the expectation was very high since Celebrity pricing is higher. The food was bland, overcooked and the presentation was average. As a result, we skipped most of the formal dining and went to the open dining areas. The ship was also full of people that were so much older (the average age was about 60 and I am being kind). As the result, most of the late night activities were empty after 10 pm since there were so few young people to hang out with. Imagine the disco and the casino closing after 11 pm from lack of attendance. Overall rating is a C+.
