Among their many innovations, Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) is perhaps best known for its “Freestyle Cruising”. Much more than just an advertising slogan, Freestyle Cruising is what sets Norwegian Cruise Line apart from every other cruise line in the industry.
To begin with, when you cruise with NCL, they don’t tell you when or where to eat. Instead, you pick the time, you decide who you want to eat with, and you can decide where to eat from a wide variety of onboard restaurants (each with its own special cuisine including Continental, French Gourmet, a 5-star Steakhouse, Mexican, Japanese, Italian and Asian fusion). And, don’t expect to find a formal dress code on NCL. It’s your vacation so, each day, you wear whatever makes you feel most comfortable.
Then there’s the stateroom selection. While most cruise lines offer a choice of standard interior, ocean-view and balcony cabins, Norwegian Cruise Line provides a much wider range of accommodations which, on most of their ships includes 5,000 square foot Garden Villas and Courtyard Villas with their own private pool and sundeck. It’s like a “ship within a ship”! Standard accommodations on NCL cruises are priced in the low-to-middle range when compared to other cruise lines so, considering everything they offer, Norwegian Cruise Line is definitely one of the best values in the industry.
Like most cruise lines, NCL can take you to some pretty fabulous destinations. But, perhaps more than any other company in the industry, NCL developed the concept of “homeport cruising”. So, you don’t have to fly to Florida if you live in the Northeast or on the West coast…they have cruises sailing round-trip from several different cities, including New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Seattle as well as the industry’s only inter-island cruises to all four of Hawaii’s most beautiful islands.
With the introduction of the Norwegian Epic in 2010, the NCL Breakaway in 2013 and the NCL Getaway in 2014, Norwegian Cruise Line takes “Freestyle Cruising” to an even greater level. The 4,200-passenger Norwegian Epic offers a unique collection of 20 dining rooms and restaurants, incredible nightlife with the first ever Ice Bar at sea, a multi-slide Aqua park and Vegas-style entertainment featuring the world-famous Blue Man Group, Second City comedy and Cirque Dreams. So rather than having one big theater where everyone onboard sees the same old song and dance routines, NCL let’s you choose from a variety of top-notch entertainment options. And, with the introduction of the Breakaway and the Getaway, the choices are practically limitless. That’s “Freestyle Cruising”.
