Celebrity intends for the Solstice class of cruise ship to provide enhanced luxury for an increasingly large number of passengers. The ships are designed to house 2,850 passengers, almost twice as much as Celebrity's current Millennium line of ships. Because of its size, it will not be able to pass through the Panama Canal, which puts a cap on the tours it can take. Initial plans are for it to winter in the Caribbean, with cruises of eastern locales such as Puerto Rico, St. Kitts, Haiti and the British Virgin Islands. It will summer in the Mediterranean, with tours of Itally, Greece and Turkey. A pair of two-week transatlantic cruises will divide each half of the year.
The Solstice class offers a number of unique features that cannot be found on other Celebrity ships. Among the most striking is a manicured lawn on the top deck, with a putting green, a Boches court and a patio country club serving drinks. The Solstice will also offer a wine cellar patterned after Napa Valley vintners, and include classes and seminars on wine tasting. The main dining room is patterned after the Golden Age of Hollywood, with a number of alternate restaurants allowing options for dining. Nightclubs, casinos and shows are available onboard the Solstice, as well as an art gallery and acupuncture service in its spa (amenities unique to Celebrity lines). Online travel agencies like Direct Line Cruises have the services to plan a vacation onboard the Celebrity Solstice.
