Celebrity Cruise Line Ships

Celebrity Cruise Lines has an extremely young fleet of ships, aimed at the higher end of luxury cruise ships. The company began in 1989, as an effort by the Chandler group to enter the luxury cruise market. The early vessels emphasized high-end service--especially the food, which Celebrity Cruise Lines is well-known for--and comparatively small ships. An aggressive expansion effort in the last eight years has produced a new line of much larger ships, bigger even than Carnival's vaunted super-ships. Celebrity hopes that the new ships will maintain its reputation for luxury vacations while allowing a larger number of passengers to enjoy them.

The fleet of Celebrity Cruise ships includes nine vessels, organized into four classes:

  • The Century class, consisting of the line's earliest and (comparatively) smallest ships (the Century, the Galaxy and the Mercury)
  • The Millennium class, introduced since the year 2000 (the Constellation, the Infinity, the Millennium and the Summit)
  • The Expedition class, consisting of a single ship that Celebrity Cruise Lines has slated for more "adventurous" cruises
  • The Solstice class, consisting of some of the largest cruise ships in the world, which is set to debut with the title vessel in 2008

Luxury Vacations on Celebrity Cruise Line Ships Can Be Found at a Discount

As a higher-end cruise line, Celebrity is more expensive than other cruises, which can be seen in its service and amenities. A good way of finding a discount is to save money on travel to and from the departure port. The online services at Direct Line Cruises can arrange for both the cruise itself and the means of arriving at and departing from the port.
